No apology can alter the simple fact that Prince Harry calling one army colleague a “Paki” and another a “raghead” is racist and unacceptable. Thousands of people have heard those words as they became victims of racist violence and harassment.
Despite that, Gordon Brown rode to the prince’s defence saying he was “a role model for young people”. He is some role model. The majority of young people in this country are anti-racist.
A Daily Mail columnist absurdly dubbed Harry “prince of the proletariat” – presumably meaning he represents white working class opinion. Yet it’s working class people, not royals, who stand together for their rights at work or protest against racist attacks.
