Corus workers force U-turn

Workers at the Corus Steel company have forced management to backtrack over their refusal to pay workers two consecutive quarterly bonuses.

These bonuses make up a significant portion of steel workers’ wages and are subject to agreements that go back decades.

The U-turn came as unions at Corus plants across the country were holding meetings and preparing to ballot for industrial action.

This is a big victory for the unions, as Corus management has been attempting to push a number of attacks on workers’ terms and conditions over the last year.

The next fight may erupt over the company’s announcement to close the pension scheme to new starters.
