The Unite union’s committee for civil service workers today agreed to organise further industrial action over pensions, in coordination with other unions.
General secretary Len McCluskey addressed a meeting of Unite’s national industrial sector committee for workers in the Ministry of Defence and other government departments.
The meeting discussed the next steps in the fight for pensions, having already rejected the government’s “heads of agreement” offer in January.
It agreed to organise a meeting with the PCS, which also rejects the offer, to discuss a joint strategy for coordinating further action.
“This is a step forward, and I hope it gives a lead to other unions,” said committee delegate Brett Davis, “We need to move quickly, because the increased contributions will soon start coming out of workers’ pockets.”
