This new production of Robert Tressell’s working class classic is being performed for the first time as a two-person play.

It tells the story of Owen, a house painter, and his efforts to rouse his fellow workers against the system.

Director Louise Townsend says its purpose is not just to be good theatre but “has something to say”. With the Tories in office its themes are as relevant as ever.

Adelita Husni-Bey: Clays Lane Live Archive

15-19 August, Supplement Gallery, London E2

The Clays Lane Housing Cooperative existed from 1982 to 2007 when it was demolished to make room for the Olympics.

This exhibition by Adelita Husni-Bey is the product of four years research and tells the history of the co-op and the people that lived there.

The exhibition features films, plays, testimonies and objects from the estate, as well as a number of off-site events including guided walk through Hackney. It’s a reminder of what was lost to make way for the Olympics.

Le Havre

This film is a heartwarming comedy about an African refugee and his struggle to avoid the French authorities who want to deport him.

He is aided by a shoeshiner and his friendly neighbours who hide him from the police. Together they take part in surreal adventures. The film shows working class solidarity against the authorities in the northern French port town.

This film takes a clear pro-immigration position based on our common humanity.
