Practical Electronica is a documentary from the self-taught multimedia artist Ian Helliwell. It looks at Fred Judd’s contribution to electronics and “musique concrète”—music made up of everyday sounds—during the 1950s and 60s.
Helliwell explores Judd’s work as a musician, inventor, engineer, designer and author. The film focuses on his experimental sound as filling in a lost chapter in early electronic music history.
Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester
This exhibition explores the history, development and impact of Manchester’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities—and “why there’s more to LGBT Manchester than just Canal Street”.
