Disgraced pathologist Dr Freddy Patel has been found to have made 68 mistakes in his post-mortem of Ian Tomlinson.
Ian died after being shoved and struck with a baton by PC Simon Harwood during the G20 protests in 2009.
Patel penned two reports into the death of the newspaper seller. Patel claimed that Ian had died from a heart attack. This finding was discredited by reports by other pathologists and by a jury at the inquest into the death.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) released a report that found Patel to be “misleading”, “dishonest” and “liable to bring the profession into disrepute”.
Patel admitted that his first report didn’t include the fact that he had told police during the examination that he found injuries that could be consistent with a baton strike. This was just one of the failings cited in the MPTS report.
Harwood was found not guilty of Ian Tomlinson’s manslaughter in a trial last month.
