HM Revenue & Customs job dispute at crossroads

An emergency HM Revenue & Customs group meeting of the PCS union took place on Monday 13 August to discuss an offer in a dispute over job losses and privatisation.

Following a strike of the 55,000 PCS members in the section in June and amidst a work-to-rule, an announcement of 1,000 casual jobs came last week.

But there has been no movement on the issue of privatisation, and 30,000 jobs have gone from the department since 2005.

The concession shows that strikes can force the bosses to shift. But the 3 September strike should be reinstated so much more can be won.
