Construction workers are holding a rolling series of protests against building bosses’ attempts to attack their terms and conditions. Around 30 protested in London last week and 15 in Cardiff.
Activists are targeting the major construction firms Crown House and Laing O’Rourke, after Crown House announced it was unilaterally withdrawing from the JIB, an industry-wide agreement covering pay, training and safety for electricians and other tradespeople.
Many believe that the move to withdraw from the JIB is part of an attempt to relaunch the bosses’ Besna agreement. This was the attack on wages and conditions that was defeated by construction workers at the beginning of this year.
Workers are set to protest at Crown House sites in Sheffield and London on Thursday and Friday of this week.
