Hillsborough papers released

Government and police documents relating to the Hillsborough football disaster in 1989 will finally be released on Wednesday of next week.

Some 96 Liverpool football fans died after police failed to open pens leading to a crush. Families will hold a vigil at Liverpool’s St George’s Plateau from 6pm on the day of the release.

Unionised staff on better pay

Workers in unions were earning 18.1 percent more on average than those outside unions in the last quarter of 2011. The Labour Force survey figures show that this pay gap is growing.

Nurses cleaning wards

A third of NHS nurses are cleaning toilets and hospital floors, a Nursing Times survey has exposed. Over half said the level of cleaning services on their ward was unacceptable, while a fifth had seen their cleaning services cut.

Third arrest in Sheridan case

Bob bird, former editor of the News of the World’s Scotland edition, has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

This relates to the 2006 defamation action brought by former MSP Tommy Sheridan against the disgraced tabloid newspaper.
