Bromley refuse workers hold unofficial strike over sack

Refuse workers in Bromley, south east London, struck unofficially on Thursday of last week against the sacking of four colleagues.

Workers were sacked for “gross misconduct” after allegedly accepting a tip. More than 120 Unite union members gathered at the depot gates the following morning and refused to leave for three hours.

A mass meeting of workers agreed unanimously to ballot for strikes, vowing “prolonged and sustained” action.
