More than 180 drivers in the Unite union were set to strike at the Tesco distribution centre in Doncaster on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. It could cause major disruption to supplies for Tesco stores in Yorkshire and the Humber region.
Tesco transferred the drivers’ contracts to new bosses Eddie Stobart (ESL) in August. ESL then issued 90 day sacking notices with no promise of reemployment, meaning the drivers could be out of work by Christmas.
Unite union shop stewards at carmakers Jaguar Land Rover are recommending a two-year pay deal. The offer is a pay rise of 4.5 percent plus £500 from November and a rise of 3 percent or RPI inflation from November 2013.
Campaigners in Barnet are to show a new film about the threat of “easyCouncil” privatisation in the London borough. It is called The Billion Pound Gamble, referring to the £1 billion of contracts the council is set to hand to private firms.

Workers in the Unite union at Amnesty International UK were set to strike on Wednesday of this week. The organisation is expanding financially, but bosses refuse to enter into meaningful negotiations over a £2.5 million programme of cuts including redundancies.

Workers at Southampton council have voted to accept a deal to end their long-running dispute over Tory pay cuts. Unison union members voted by 574 to 72 in a ballot to accept the proposals. Unite members voted by 225 to 51 to accept.
