The Kenyan government claims that its forces in Somalia, east Africa, have killed more than 100 Islamist fighters, in retaliation for attacking a bus in Kenya. But the Islamist Al Shabaab group has dismissed this as “absurd”.

Al Shabaab fighters hijacked the bus last Saturday and executed 28 passengers who did not look Somali and could not recite an Islamic creed.

The Islamists said the attack was in retaliation for raids on mosques. Some 3,600 Kenyan troops are currently among forces occupying Somalia.
