Labour home secretary Shabana Mahmood said “white liberals” can “fuck right off” when anti-racists called out her anti-migrant racism this week.
Hecklers at a live interview said she was “out-Reforming Reform UK” with the barrage of racist policies she’s implemented.
Mahmood claimed this was “just a way of delegitimising the point of view that I bring to the table.
“It’s also a way of delegitimising the perfectly valid, legitimate views of millions of people in this country, including ethnic minorities in this country,” she said.
“I do think there is that element of it, which is, ‘How dare you, a brown woman, say a thing that we white liberals think you’re not allowed to say?’ Well, I’m saying it.”
This is bullying. It’s emotional blackmail. Mahmood wants to push the narrative of the “good migrant”—that if you behave well, then you deserve to be here. But this is all a smokescreen for vile politics and vile policies.
The reality is that the policies she’s implementing could cause another Windrush Scandal. Which is such a nice name for a mass deportation of people who’ve lived and worked in this country.
Mahmood has already suspended the family reunion applications. Meaning that children are separated from their parents. It’s just disgusting. She’s talking about changing the European Convention of Human Rights (EHRC) with the Tory’s language.
They’re extending the period required for indefinite leave to remain. Care workers are some of the hardest workers in our society, doing jobs that most of us would probably never want to do. And they’re the people who Labour want to make wait 15 years for the right to remain.
All while we’re facing a crisis in care for the elderly, in hospitals, in childcare, the list goes on.
Think about the reality these people live in. You’re in a poorly paid job, really poorly paid. You’ve got to stump up all this cash, every year, for the pleasure of staying in this country, just to be insulted by mainstream politicians.
Imagine being one of these people. You’re having to raise your children in this atmosphere with the threat of something worse hanging over you.
And you’re just constantly being made to feel like you don’t really belong here. That you’re never going to really belong here. That if you get a parking fine, you might get deported.
Mahmood is bullying the most vulnerable people in our society to cover up for Labour’s failures—look at the most recent chapter of the Peter Mandelson scandal.
Her occupying this position is part of a trend. How many recent home secretaries haven’t been white?
Sajid Javid, Priti Patel, Suella Braverman. And now we’ve got Mahmood, who seems even more extreme than Patel.
I 100 percent think they’re putting black people into these positions to shut people up. They want to turn around and say, “I can’t be racist because my parents came over here.”
She’s basically dismissing people who have serious concerns about racism, as being part of the woke brigade. And again, she’s doing it to outdo the far right.
It’s all because she wants to try and blame all the economic problems on migrants. They want us to believe that we spend all this money housing, feeding and educating migrants.
But how much money have we spent on arming Israel? Why are we spending money on stuff like that and then persecuting the most vulnerable people in society?
But how much of our GDP is actually spent on this stuff compared to how much profits they make in the city of London every year? How much compared to the profits of the energy companies, the supermarkets?
I’m not a white liberal—and I think she’s doing the work of the far right.
