Funding fascist violence is expensive. So who pays for Nazi Tommy Robinson’s marches, racist propaganda and social media outpourings?
It’s not easy to find out because Robinson exists in a shadowy world. He wants to hide the cash he siphons off for his racist projects—and his luxury holidays and opulent lifestyle.
But we do know there are vile Islamophobic figures involved—and some are also linked to Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK.
A detailed study in Byline Times this month by Nafeez Ahmed found, “One of Robinson’s financial supporters is an American multi-millionaire and Donald Trump ally, Patrick Michael Byrne.”
Robinson is close to the brutally Islamophobic Byrne. On 2 August, as the mosque-burners and refugee-hunters stalked Britain, Robinson found time to tweet about a recent Byrne publication.
He stated, “Here’s my book of choice for this break I’m having. It’s Patrick Byrne, a man at the forefront of saving America.”
This month during the far right surge, Byrne lied on Twitter that “2.5 percent of the British population (Muslim men) commits 90 percent of rapes. Are they racist? Because I think that a group expecting to do that without expecting a response has a latent sense of supremacy”.
Another of Robinson’s supporters is a far right Danish politician Morten Messerschmidt who is close friends with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
Messerschmidt has a long history of racism and Islamophobic vitriol. That includes warning in 2009 of the inevitability of race wars in Europe that would require Europeans to participate in a violent uprising.
One version of Robinson’s film Silenced launched in April 2023 in the Danish parliament in Copenhagen.
It was at an event organised by the far right Danish People’s Party (DPP) and the Danish Free Press Society. Ahmed writes, “Hosting Robinson at the event was Farage’s connection, Morten Messerschmidt, DPP Leader since 2022, who spoke both before and after the screening and congratulated Robinson as a hero.
“Convicted of racial hatred in 2002 for putting up a poster blaming a rise in rapes on a multi-ethnic society, Messerschmidt is one of the earliest proponents of the idea that Europe is on the brink of a racial civil war triggered by Muslim immigration.”
In 2021 Farage created a video message for DPP members endorsing Messerschmidt for leadership of the party.
Robinson also stashes away his money through accountancy manoeuvres. The Sunday Times newspaper reported recently that Robinson and his associates have created a web of secretive companies.
These have made profits of more than £1.6 million—without paying tax—before filing for insolvency.
The article went on, “The far right leader has spent six years conducting his anti‑migrant activism and fundraising through entities whose directors have failed to file annual accounts on a single occasion.
“The companies owe £328,000 in corporation tax and employer contributions to HMRC, documents state.”
Tommy Robinson has never been subject to any tax enforcement action. He has instead appointed an insolvency practitioner to wind up companies.
The Sunday Times article says, “In each instance, they have appointed Ninos Koumettou and his son, Yiannis, who are chartered accountants based in London and partners at Begbies Traynor, a professional services firm. Their work with Robinson started in 2018.
“That month, he met Ninos Koumettou in connection with the liquidation of a company of which he was director: Lennon Consultancy.”
Robinson’s real name is Stephen Yaxley‑Lennon. He also fleeces his own supporters who gullibly hand him over money for his boozing and snorting.
