Birgül Dogan

Birgül’s extraordinary will to survive, to remain positive, to look to the future and to accept the present reality meant that although the last few months of her life were stressful, she never allowed the worry about her illness to be uppermost in her mind.

With Birgül’s taste for adventure she set off for England in the mid-1990s, leaving her family home in Turkey.

After an impressionable trip to Cuba, Birgül joined the SWP, and worked for the party in a number of capacities.

Birgül was a great comrade and friend, and would always put other people before herself.

We will miss Birgül terribly. Her joyous, honest smile and her determination will stay with us forever.

Our love and thoughts go out to her partner Alex Bourn and family.

Join Alex in celebrating Birgül’s life, 16 December at 1pm, The Round Chapel, Lower Clapton Road, Hackney E5.
