Around 50 tube cleaners, drivers, signal staff and passengers demonstrated outside London’s City Hall on Monday in opposition to 200 compulsory redundancies being imposed on cleaning staff employed by Tube Lines contractor ISS.

RMT representatives, including general secretary Bob Crow, delivered a letter to mayor Ken Livingstone demanding his support in their campaign against the cuts.

There are fears the cuts will imperil safety, as well as wreck cleaners’ lives. The union has threatened to ballot for industrial action if compulsory redundancies take place.
