US aerial assault on Somalia

Issue No. 2033

US aircraft rained death on Somalia, east Africa, this week, in a further horrific escalation of the “war on terror”.

In alliance with Ethiopian forces, the US AC-130 warplanes struck twice on Monday and Tuesday in southern Somalia, ludicrously claiming that their air offensive was aimed at specific individuals.

As always, it was ordinary people who suffered, with reports of four civilians killed in the village of Hayo.

“My four year old boy was killed in the strike,” Mohamed Mahmud Burale told the BBC.

The US central command added on Tuesday that it was deploying the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower off the Somali coast.

The US is not “liberating” Somalia – it is carrying out the 21st century equivalent of colonial “gunboat diplomacy”.
