Fujitsu workers step up their industrial action campaign

Issue No. 2035

A packed meeting of Amicus union members at Fujitsu in Manchester last week decided to step up their campaign to defend agreements on union recognition, redundancy, redeployment and pay. They are also pushing for better pay.

Members had already taken three strike-days, and decided to escalate with a five-day strike from Monday of next week.

During the strikes so far, members have toured the country leafleting other Fujitsu sites to build the union, as well as targeting customer sites.

The five-day action is intended to allow this campaigning approach to be extended further.

It is hoped to organise a joint rally with the PCS civil service workers' union members and Unison union members in the NHS who are set to strike on Wednesday of next week.

This is significant as the civil service is Fujitsu's biggest customer, and Fujitsu is also a major supplier of IT services to the NHS.
