Keep up tube fight

Issue No. 1761

LONDON MAYOR Ken Livingstone has dropped his High Court appeal against the government's plan to privatise the tube through Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Livingstone lost the original case because the judge said he could not consider the issues of safety and private finance. Livingstone dropped the appeal because lawyers said he had little chance of winning. He has still pledged to 'use all appropriate means' to oppose PPP.

There were two highly successful strikes against PPP earlier this year. Tube workers will have to keep up the pressure on their union leaders, and Ken Livingstone, to fight PPP.
