Victory for Capita workers

by David Wilshire, CWU union branch secretary
Issue No. 2038

After a two day strike at Capita TV Licensing in Bristol, an “in principle” agreement has been reached with management that places a limit on the number of jobs going to India.

This was the first strike ever in Capita and management backed down just before notice was due to be served to widen the dispute to the rest of the site.

This is a tremendous victory given the fact that in November of last year Capita were only prepared to guarantee people’s jobs for six months.

It shows that strike action can be used to reverse the decisions made by employers in the private sector.
