Some 150 people attended a tenants’ meeting in Lambeth in south London on Saturday of last week to organise against the local Almo.
Local resident Steve Hack said, “This was the biggest political meeting in Lambeth for ages.
“The meeting voted to send a delegation to the launch of Defend Council Housing’s new pamphlet this week.
“We have to put pressure on councillors to hold a new ballot on the Almo. People took away petitions from the meeting, to collect signitures calling for this.
“There was a real feeling of anger at the money being spent by this Labour government on war. When they then turn round and say they can’t afford to build or maintain council homes.
This meeting showed that there is real anger in Lambeth at the way that our homes have been handed over to an Almo. There is a recognition that this is privatisation.”
