North Staffordshire post strike set to spread

Issue No. 2042

Postal staff from all over North Staffordshire may strike after Royal Mail managers were brought in an attempt to weaken a strike at the Burslem delivery office.

Staff there struck for six days after a colleague was suspended for alleged abuse of a manger.

CWU union divisional rep Mick Kavanagh said, “We are meeting all the representatives from Stoke and Stafford. We are looking to ballot them all for their support.”

Bringing in scores of managers at Burslem is another provocative move by Royal Mail.

The CWU cannot allow local disputes to be isolated in this way. Ballots are also pending in the South West No 1 branch, Nottingham, Barnstable, Fareham and Newcastle.
