Respect is urging its supporters to throw themselves into the campaign to re-elect Michael Lavalette as a councillor in Preston.
Michael was elected to the Town Centre ward in 2003. Since then he has taken up major issues, such as the war and the NHS, and fought for his constituents.
“We had a planning meeting last week to map out the campaign,” Michael told Socialist Worker. “We have a mass leafleting day for Respect supporters in the north west of England organised for Sunday 1 April in Preston.
“We are asking people from across the country to come to Preston to campaign on Saturday 21 April. We are going to canvass and have a cavalcade through the ward to make a big impact.
“We can arrange accommodation for those who want to stay in Preston overnight so they can also help campaign in the area the following day.
“We also want people to come whenever they can from now on, as we are going to begin canvassing the entire ward from this week. Everyone who comes can make a big difference in the campaign.”

Leicestershire Respect held a selection meeting on Tuesday of last week to elect candidates for two wards in the local elections on 3 May.
Wayne Muldoon, the Respect councillor in Lemyngton ward in Loughborough, was nominated for re-election, while Sadia Jabeen was nominated for the Spinney Hills ward in Leicester.
