Solidarity's election campaign a hit in Scotland

Issue No. 2045

Solidarity, Scotland’s Socialist Movement, is campaigning hard for the 3 May elections for the Scottish parliament.

Jimmy Ross is a Solidarity activist in Glasgow, where Tommy Sheridan MSP is topping the party’s list. He spoke to Socialist Worker about the Solidarity campaign.

“We had a big stall in Glasgow city centre on Saturday,” said Jimmy. “We phoned up members who hadn’t yet been out campaigning – so we had a new group of people out, which was really good.

“We now have a diary of events and have planned our daily campaigning from now until election day.

“As well as standing in the list for the Scottish parliament, we’re contesting 21 seats for Glasgow’s city council – so we’re appealing for people to come and help out if they can. The Glasgow office has a free phone number if people are able to help or have any questions – just call 0800 043 1917.

“Mark Steel is coming to do two fundraisers next week – he’s in Edinburgh on Thursday 15 April and in Glasgow on Friday 16 April.

“These aren’t just about raising money for the campaign, but also to show that people support Solidarity.”
