Was Liverpool murder racist?

Issue No. 2051

A 21 year old mixed-race man was stabbed to death in Liverpool last Sunday. Marlon Moran was found with a knife wound by neighbours in Byron Street, Garston.

Police initially said the murder was racially motivated. They later revised this, saying they did not believe Marlon was killed because he was mixed-race, but there was a “racial element” to the attack.

A cousin of Marlon told the local press that the family had been “constantly racially abused”. She said, “There have been occasions when gangs of youths have pelted Marlon’s house with eggs and made gorilla chants outside. It has just been mindless racism.”
