Goods protest at Selfridges

Issue No. 1783

PRO-PALESTINIAN activists returned to top London store Selfridges last Saturday. Before Christmas the store agreed to stop stocking goods labelled 'Made in Israel' which had been made illegally in occupied Palestinian territories. The store's bosses came under huge pressure to restock the goods. The Israeli ambassador in London toured the shop.

The store eventually backed down and restocked the goods, sparking the new protests by pro-Palestinian activists. The Boycott Israeli Goods (BIG) campaign mobilised around 50 protesters last Saturday. Some went into the store and addressed shoppers. The Al Jazeera TV station filmed the protest, which was seen widely across the Middle East.

The campaign is determined to extend the protest against these goods, in what has become a test case.

The BIG campaign is encouraging activists around the country to check goods in shops and student unions.
