Fear and anger has swept the globe after the revelations of George Bush's latest warmongering plans. Leaks from the US military's Nuclear Posture Review show plans to use nuclear weapons against China, Russia, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Syria and Libya. It seriously talks about more Hiroshimas, more Nagasakis, more wars which could destroy all life on the planet. And for Bush's gang it is now not a matter of if but when and how the war with Iraq will begin.
That war would see thousands of innocent people killed. Who could guarantee that Bush would draw back from using nuclear weapons? The US government is arrogant and bent on violence. It knows it has one certain ally-Tony Blair. Bush felt confident enough to ask for 25,000 British troops to take part in an invasion force in Iraq.
The threat of wider war is increasing opposition to Bush and Blair, even among normally quiet Labour MPs. The Stop the War Coalition is launching a national petition against war on Iraq. It is also asking schools, colleges and workplaces to pledge there will be protests if a war breaks out.
We need a wave of discontent against Bush's war drive and enough pressure on Blair to force him to stop backing this madness.
