Civil servants

Issue No. 1791

STRIKERS FROM all over Britain lobbied the national executive meeting of the civil servants' PCS union last week. They were representing 750 people who work in the government's trial Pathfinder scheme which merges job centres and benefits offices. They have been on all-out strike since at least last October.

They are striking against the removal of safety screens from these offices. The lobby of the national executive ensured that the strikes are continuing. The union is in talks with management about safety screens being removed from all new merged Jobcentre Plus offices, which will be officially launched on 2 April.

The union should increase the pressure on management and New Labour by calling a strike for the day of that launch.
