Drop the debt

Issue No. 1670

THE ANTI-debt Jubilee 2000 coalition has called a protest outside the Treasury in London for Thursday 11 November. The call has received an enthusiastic response from groups of students and more are set to discuss it in the days to come.

Jubilee 2000 wants chancellor Gordon Brown to cancel all of the $2.6 billion owed to Britain by the poorest countries. Student meetings at Southwark College and Tower Hamlets College saw enthusiastic support for the idea of tackling New Labour over debt. Meetings are planned in other colleges.

Assemble Thursday 11 November, 12.30pm, UK Treasury, Parliament Square (Westminster tube). Trumpet blast 1pm.
