Warwick Uni head stung by waltzing

Warwick University students organised a lively protest last week against the university's Centre for Education and Industry. This promotes education-industry links, and produces teaching packs for primary, secondary and further education.

The centre is funded by McDonald's, Esso, GlaxoSmithKline, BP, Natwest, Consignia and other companies. The student union, People and Planet, and Globalise Resistance took out a joint full page 'subvertisement' for the centre in the student newspaper.

Some 70 people then protested outside the university headquarters. It went on for three hours, and saw dancing, lively chanting, large banners hung from nearby trees, an improvised samba band, limbo games and a waltzing Esso tiger!

The vice-chancellor of the university looked horrendously out of touch, refusing to take five minutes to address the students' concerns.
