MEMBERS OF the RMT union on Eurostar are to ballot for strikes over pay and regrading.
The 150 customer service team members at Waterloo and Ashford are fighting against low pay and unequal rates for people doing identical work.
Staff at Ashford International are recruited on £13,000 a year—exactly the same as in 1994.
The company’s proposed grading changes will mean staff with more than a year’s service will get just £264 a year more.
Different pay rates for people on the same grades mean workers at Ashford are paid £4,000 less than colleagues at Waterloo doing identical work.
“But even those on the new higher rate of £20,000 at Waterloo would be on around £4,500 less than comparable grades on London Underground,” says RMT assistant general secretary Pat Sikorski.
Ballots are taking place on new offers to RMT members at Metronet and Viacom.The RMT leadership is recommending acceptance of both deals.
