Lecturers and supporters were to demonstrate and rally on Wednesday of this week against redundancies at London Metropolitan University.
The UCU union branch has received confirmation that management intends to make up to 60 redundancies (plus cutting an unknown number of hourly-paid lecturers) without consulting the union at any level.
Management continues to insist that union recognition lapsed when the UCU was formed. London Met is the only university in the country to argue such a case.
London Met UCU say it is clear that management has been planning these redundancies for several months, but have chosen to move now because they believe that the UCU cannot react over the summer.
