Don’t delay on teachers’ pay

Issue No. 2059

The NUT teachers’ union national executive will be meeting on Wednesday of next week to discuss the timetable for action over pay.

Worryingly, general secretary Steve Sinnott is proposing that the ballot be put back until December, in order to bring the other teachers’ unions in behind the ballot.

NUT executive member Kevin Courtney told Socialist Worker, “Members and branches should send in petitions and reports of workplace meetings over pay.

“If Unison goes ahead with its ballot over pay, then teaching assistants will be on strike.”

The best way to win over pay is for all public sector unions to take action together.
