FIREFIGHTERS IN West Yorkshire are planning a demonstration after the fire authority voted to press ahead with its plans to merge the Bramley and Pudsey fire stations in Leeds. This is despite firefighters handing in an 11,000 signature petition to the fire authority meeting.

The merger would mean one less fire engine covering the Bramley and Pudsey area, which local residents and firefighters believe would put local residents at risk. The West Yorkshire fire authority is Labour dominated and led by councillor Lawrence Conlon, who heads the national employers' body.
