The al-Doustour article

When David Morrison, delivery rep at Islington in north London, read in Socialist Worker about a desperate strike by Egyptian postal workers (28 July), he sent a simple note of solidarity to Cairo.

“I read about your fight and would like to send to you and all the Egyptian postal workers solidarity from the Islington postal workers in north London,” he wrote “You can be an inspiration to us all here in UK.”

The message was translated and passed around the Egyptian postal workers and eventually picked up by bloggers who tracked down David on their behalf.

The message of solidarity was then picked up by a leading Egyptian daily, al-Doustour, as a sign of the growing international awareness of a wave of strikes spreading across Egypt.

The Egyptian strikers have won many of their demands after a bitter struggle for better wages and working conditions.
