Ballot result due in crucial fight in NHS to defend Karen Reissmann

Issue No. 2064

The battle to defend Karen Reissmann, a leading Unison health union activist who has been suspended from her job as a psychiatric nurse, reaches a crucial point this week.

A ballot for strike action of workers at Manchester Community and Mental Health NHS trust is set to end on Thursday of this week.

If the ballot is successful, Unison is planning a rolling strategy of three-day strikes that will involve the entire branch of over 700 members in Karen’s defence.

Karen was suspended from work after she spoke out against the handing of services to the private and voluntary sectors.

The campaign in her defence is rattling management.

The Manchester Community and Mental Health Unison branch has called a demonstration in support of Karen on Sunday 9 September in Manchester.
