Overwhelming vote for strike action in defence of Karen Reissmann

The Manchester Mental Health branch Unison vote on action in defence of activist Karen Reissmann has seen a stunning 87.3 percent yes for strike action, on a 47 percent turnout. The first strikes likely to be bewtween Wednesday 29 August and Friday 31 August. There is also a demonstration called for Sunday 9 September.

The strike is in protest at the ongoing suspension of Unison branch chair and Unison national health service executive member, Karen Reissmann.

Karen is a community psychiatric nurse in the Trust who has been suspended for more than eight weeks. The charges relate to her trade union activity and her speaking out against government policies and local cuts.

The strike will cover all in patient, hospital and community psychiatric services across the City of Manchester. The majority of strikers are nurses, administration workers and occupational therapists.
