Nippon Express strike

Drivers and warehouse workers at Heathrow cargo handler Nippon Express picketed the airport during a strike on Tuesday of last week in a dispute over pay and shifts. The workers, members of the T&G section of the new Unite union, say that they stand to lose over £1,000 a year through new shift patterns. Union membership has doubled at the firm since the dispute started earlier this year. Further strike days are planned.

Emcor vote for action

GMB union members at Emcor Facilities Services at Heathrow and Gatwick airports have voted by more than four to one for industrial action, including strikes, over pay.

They are planning mass meetings on Wednesday of next week at the airports to discuss the next step of their pay campaign.

The workers carry out crucial airport and grounds maintenance, engineering, towing, helpdesk operations, security and cleaning work at the airports.

Group 4 Securicor East Midlands ballot

More than 200 security workers employed by Group 4 Securicor at East Midlands airport are to be balloted for industrial action in a row over pay.

Unite union official Mick Till said the workers are seeking a “substantial pay increase to reflect increased pressures and responsibilities”.
