Day care workers in Glasgow ballot for indefinite strike

Workers in six day centres for disabled people in Glasgow are balloting for an indefinite strike.

The workers are employed by Glasgow council and are members of the Unison union.

The ballot follows on from the successful indefinite strike of Glasgow council social care workers last month.

Like the social care workers, day centre workers were downgraded in the council’s single status pay review.

There is already support for the workers from other council staff, carers’ groups and service users’ groups.

Council workers and service users are all aware of the council’s pressure on day centre workers to take on more tasks while accepting lower pay.

The ballot closes on 27 September.
