Improved pay offer for Chesterfield Stagecoach bus drivers

Issue No. 2069

Bus drivers at Stagecoach’s Chesterfield depot have voted by a substantial majority to accept an improved pay offer.

Around 200 drivers, members of the RMT and Unite unions, held a strike and demonstration two weeks ago after rejecting a pay offer staged over two years.

They were due to strike again on Friday of last week, but the action was suspended after management came back with an improved pay offer.

The new deal will see the hourly rate rise from £7.50 an hour to £7.75 backdated to May. It will then rise to £7.90 in November.

Malcolm Lord, RMT rep at the depot, told Socialist Worker, “I am glad there is a resolution. The action we took definitely shook management.”
