INDUSTRIAL action could be hitting ITN soon, after workers voted at a mass meeting last week to be balloted. Any action could disrupt news programmes on ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
ITN bosses want workers to agree to new shift patterns which workers say 'will wreck our lives'. Bosses want all workers to agree to night working, a new five day work pattern of unsocial hours and a 45 hour week.
A 200 strong meeting of workers, including members of both the BECTU technical and clerical union and the NUJ journalists' union, voted last week to ballot if the plans are not dropped. 'There is considerable anger. I have never seen people like this in all the time I have worked with the company,' said one worker.
