Respect launches fundraising drive for snap election

Issue No. 2071

Respect has launched an emergency £20,000 general election fundraising drive in preparation for an early poll.

Already Respect branches are planning their election challenge if Gordon Brown goes for an early poll.

George Galloway is seeking nomination in Poplar and Limehouse, so Respect is set to contest both seats in Tower Hamlets as well as standing in Newham. It will also contest target seats in both Birmingham and Preston, where Respect has a strong presence.

There will be Respect candidates in most areas of England. In Sheffield Maxine Bowler reports that Respect is ready to stand.

'We need to put forward a candidate who breaks with the free market, pro-war consensus shared by Brown and Cameron,' she points out.
