Racists get go ahead

Issue No. 1673

HOME secretary Jack Straw has once more caved in to the racists over immigration. He has added still more vicious measures against asylum seekers to the Immigration and Asylum Bill, which will shortly become law. Virtually all the groups that work with asylum seekers have described measures in the bill as barbaric.

The authorities will now have the power to place all asylum seekers in any particular area under indefinite house arrest to 'prevent public order problems'. If racist gangs are attacking refugees, the police will crack down on the refugees as if they were the criminals.

The government is also giving itself the power to remove all asylum seekers from a particular area. If ever there was an invitation to racists to declare 'open season' on asylum seekers, this is it.
