MANY PEOPLE might have expected politics to be winding down in the run up to Xmas and the millennium celebrations. But the opposite is true. New Labour's pro-business and anti working class policies have led to an outburst of anger. It was set to announce more reactionary measures in the Queen's Speech on Wednesday.
In the coming two weeks thousands of people are planning to take to the streets. Pensioners will be protesting next Wednesday against their insulting treatment by New Labour. Students will be taking part in a national demonstration next Thursday against tuition fees. And on Tuesday 30 November, 'N30', marches and rallies are planned around Britain as part of protests across the world against finance ministers and bankers at the World Trade Organisation.
We urge all our readers to throw themselves into these protests. We want the loudest possible explosion of anger at New Labour and its pro-market policies. In doing so we can proudly raise the banner for socialism as the alternative to the capitalist system which squeezes the poorest in Britain and throughout the world.
