Cadbury’s workers protest in Keynsham

Issue No. 2073

Workers protested outside the Cadbury’s factory in Keynsham, Somerset, on Thursday of last week against plans to close it down.

Hundreds of employees – members of the Unite union – and their families protested against the announcement to close the factory by 2010, which will see 500 people lose their jobs.

Production will be moved to Poland and Bournville in Birmingham.

Workers from Cadbury’s in Keynsham and Bournville in Birmingham were set to join Unite’s lobby of parliament on Wednesday of this week as part of the union’s “Manufacturing Matters” campaign.

The union wants to highlight the one million jobs lost in the manufacturing sector over the last ten years and demand that the government intervenes to support manufacturing.
