The farce of a “union” without any members representing workers at the Racing Post newspaper was ended last week when the British Association of Journalists (BAJ) was reported to have withdrawn from its recognition agreement.
The BAJ had signed a sweetheart deal with Mirror Group Newspapers. Its move comes after the title was sold.
Over 100 staff signed a petition against the BAJ recognition deal at the time it was signed.
Steve Turner, the BAJ’s general secretary, was forced to admit the deal made no sense given his association had no members at the title.
The National Union of Journalists is now approaching the new company to discuss recognition.
