Leading Unison union activist and psychiatric nurse Karen Reissmann has been sacked by Manchester mental health trust for the “crime” of bringing her employers into disrepute.
Karen had spoken out against cuts and privatisation in services provided by herself and her members. For this, Karen was suspended from work and dragged through a lengthy disciplinary process.
Health workers in Manchester are refusing to allow their bosses to victimise Karen. More than 700 have already taken 14 days of strike action in her defence. Now around 150 community-based staff have pledged to continue their strike action from Thursday of this week until Karen is reinstated.
