Brown rules out fourth option as 'simply unaffordable'

Issue No. 2079

Last week the government dismissed the fourth option of direct investment in council housing as 'simply unaffordable'.

Meanwhile Gordon Brown is pushing a new Housing and Regeneration Bill, which faces its second reading this week.

Behind the headlines promising three million new homes the bill in fact introduces means testing for 'low cost rented housing'.

It discriminates against councils building new homes while offering public money to profit-making companies.

The bill will also enable predatory landlords to 'persuade' their tenants to ballot to transfer their homes and estates.

Defend Council Housing has produced a briefing on the bill. For more details go to » www.defendcouncilhousing.org.uk
