Post workers vote to accept deal

Issue No. 2079

Postal workers in the CWU union have voted by approximately 2 to 1 to accept a deal recommended by their union leadership to end their dispute over pay and conditions.

The deal will mean changes to working practices, which are subject to local negotiation.

Socialist Worker supporters were opposed to the deal.

Royal Mail is now planning a major attack on the company pension scheme.

There is a likelihood of battles ahead. The 28,000 workers who voted no, and many of those who reluctantly voted yes, can form a serious bedrock of support for action.
