Resisting attack on Iran

Issue No. 2080

Mohammad Omidvar represents Iran’s Tudeh (Communist) Party. He told the session on Iran about a growing movement for change inside the country.

Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is imposing a programme of savage neoliberal cuts, said Mohammad. But he reiterated that the anti‑war movement must remain united against attempts to interfere in the country.

In a sentiment echoed by Campaign Iran, the Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran and the Iran’s Mothers Against War organisation, the delegates said that irrespective of the policies of Ahmadinejad, the opposition are united in resisting attempts by the pro-war lobby to hijack their movement.

Abbas Edalat warned, “The US is advanced in their preparations for war. We still have time to stop this attack, but every day will count.

“Sanctions on Iran are not an alternative to war, but a prelude to war.”
